Balkan-style stuffed cabbage rolls - a recipe worth your time

Prepare the cabbage. If it is pickled, rinse it under cold water. If fresh, separate the leaves and blanch in boiling water until soft.

Chop the bacon, onion, carrot and garlic. Fry everything in a pan for a few minutes, add the minced meat, rice, salt, pepper, paprika and thyme. Mix well and simmer until half cooked.

Place a little filling on each cabbage leaf and wrap into a tight roll.

Place the cabbage rolls in a pan in layers, alternating them with the chopped cabbage.

Mix the tomato paste with the broth, add the bay leaf, salt, pepper and pour the sauce over the stuffed cabbage rolls.

Cover and simmer over low heat for 1.5–2 hours.

Serve hot with sour cream or fresh herbs. Enjoy!
